I got into light studies and consistent mobility work about 12 yrs ago in my own practice. I always knew that I felt better when I took these classes, but I didn't do a deep dive until more recently. I started really studying this work when I began to work with people on their cancer journey so that the yoga we were doing would help them get their strength and mobility back and help them in a more functional way.

During the pandemic, I didn't have the stamina for a bunch of full length practices, but my body was desperate for what a full length practice used to provide me with. When I started doing little mini sessions, or movement snacks as my friend called them, I found my happy place.

Did you know that movement snacks are a great way to bring in mobility so you can keep up the activities you love? Just a few minutes a day of mobility work can make a huge difference in how you feel now and in the upcoming years.

I want you to find ways to keep moving the way you love to move so I've created my Aging with Grace series with that in mind. We do a 30-35 min mobility section in each 75 min class that can be broken down into a few movement snacks that you can revisit throughout the week. The other practices are for relaxation and stress reduction as well as helping release tension from the face and boosting our collagen while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

I came across Julie Angel's blog (3-4 min read) and really love her take on movement snacks and why they are so beneficial.
Check it out HERE.

A few gems from it...

  • Many studies have found that ten minutes a day is the sweet spot. It’s enough to build strength and mobility to support you through everyday life.
  • When you feel physically stronger you will, by default, feel more confident in your capacity and life gets bigger, not smaller, as we age.
  • As you step into midlife, you want to be able to move. To get up the stairs, carry your groceries or get down on the ground with ease. This is a state of living where you have true freedom, and you feel good.

If you are ever interested in joining us live on Zoom on a Wednesday night, I'd love to share these practices with you! You can also grab some replays of classes if the timing doesn't work. Details are HERE.
